MY WINTER DRY SKIN RESCUE KIT

In the summer my skin is combination/oily but switches to normal/dry in the winter. What helps to maintain the balance of oils and water in my skin are mentioned below. These are the products I use and my focus is on ensuring that my skin stays hydrated and protected.

Boots No 7 Total Renewal Microdermabrasion Exfoliator

Exfoliating is a very important step in keeping the skin moisturized. Since everything slows down in the winter due to the body preserving energy to warm our organs on the inside, the skin, being on the outside of the body, needs a bit of help in shedding the dead skin. Removing dead skin allows your moisturizers and hydrating serums to penetrate to plump the skin and keep it soft and smooth to the touch.

Boots No 7 Beautiful Skin Hydration Mask
I use this every time I exfoliate and my skin feels amazing afterwards. Sometimes I would even use this when I just think my skin needs that extra boost. Whenever I use it, I would put it on and get into the shower so that the steam will open my pores so that all the goodness can be absorbed.

Dermalogica Antioxidant Hydramist

This has been a staple product of mine for a very long time. It’s from the AGE Smart line of Dermalogica products that treats aging skin and is packed with ingredients to treat mature/maturing skin. This toner defies what you may typically consider a toner because it hydrates, has antioxidants that fights free radicals (these destroy cells), peptides that plumps and smooths fine lines and contains loads of extracts that slows the signs of aging.

Skinceuticals Hydrating B5 Gel

This hydrating serum is definitely a must have for the winter. It is packed with hyaluronic acid which is a natural hydrator in the body that binds moisture to the skin. It also contains the vitamin b5 that helps with tissue repairs. Used after toning, this will leave your skin plump and when used at night gives your skin the right environment to replenish itself while you sleep for great skin the next day.

Clinique Moisture Surge

This is a new find for me and I owe this one to a family member. My family is a huge Clinique fan spanning two generations. I somehow missed this boat as I tend to go towards more professional products since I am in the skincare business. Well, she gave me a deluxe sample size jar and I just could not get enough of this product. It has a creamy gel-like consistency that carries the feeling of a serum which makes absolutely no sense, I know. But that’s the magic of this product. It is good for all skin types whether you’re oily, extremely dry or has aging skin. It is oil-free so it quenches dry thirsty cracked skin with just one use and promises to keep the skin moisturized for up to 24 hours. I’m in love!

Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance

I switch in the winter from their Skin Smoothing Cream to the Intensive Moisture Balance moisturizer to form a better barrier on my skin from harsh wind and the cold. Even though I would say my skin changes from Combination/Oily in the summer to pretty much Normal in the winter, I owe this balance to a great moisturizer plus all the other things mentioned in this post. A lot of people who have oily skin are afraid of using thicker moisturizers because of fear of breaking out but knowing the types of oils that clogs the pores is important as not all moisturizers are created equal. Dermalogica uses grape seed extract and the oil of which is even helpful in fighting acne.

Puritan Pride Retinol Cream

I was sent this moisturizer to try and I was a little hesitant at first because even though it had some pretty good ingredients in it such as coconut oil, Vitamin A and E, it also contains mineral oil, an ingredient I stay away from in both hair and skincare products. I decided to give it a try, risking a breakout just to give you guys a review on this product and I was very surprised that after weeks of using it I still have not experienced any breakouts. It is very thick in consistency so it acts as a very good moisturizer for my skin and has even helped to clear up some old breakout hyper pigmentation. I use this at nights and follow up the next day with an SPF day cream.

Water
Water is something that people drink less of in the cold seasons and more of in the warmer seasons but should be consumed in large quantities all year round because of its hydrating properties. The skin benefits from hydrating from the inside out as well as flushing toxins from the body that may cause inflammation and build up of free radicals that contributes to aging of the skin.
